8:00pm to 10:00pm Sexuality on Trial: Current Legal Cases Facing the Queer Community. A panel discussion that will adress the Colorado Supreme Court Case, Gays in the Military (Brooklyn), the Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade case, and other leading legal issues of the day. Professor Bill Rubenstine (ACLU), Mary Bonauto (Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders), and Beatrice Dohrn and Evan Wolfson (Lambda Legal Defense Fund, NY). 3:00pm Andrew Tobias Andrew Tobias, Harvard College and Harvard Business School alumnus, is the author (under pen name John Reid) of "The Best Little Boy in the World," bestselling novel and one of first coming-out novels published (in 1977) by a major publishing house. He is also a well known personal finance author ("The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need"), Time Magazine columnist, software entrepreneur (creator of TaxCut and Managing Your Money finance software), auto insurance reform and anti-smoking activist, and winner of the Gerald Loeb award for distinguished financial journalism and the Consumer Federation of America Media Service Award. 7:00 pm What Straight Educators Can Do to Make Schools Safe for Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Students. Arthur Lipkin, Lecturer on Education, will moderate a panel discussion around the issues faced by gay, lesbian and bisexual teachers and students. Panelists include Van Seascholes, Principal of Newton South High School; Christine Huff, formerly of Milton Academy and a member of the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Teachers Network (GLSTN); a parent and students. Gutman Conference Center, Gutman Library, Appian Way. Presented by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Free and open to the public.
8:00 pm The Future of Gay Politics: Where do we go from here? Panelists include Tim McFeely (Former Executive Director, Human Rights Campaign Fund), Melinda Paras (Executive Director, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force), Abner Mason (President, the Log Cabin Federation), and Michael Bronski (moderator - Author of "Culture Clash: The Making of Gay Sensibility"). Panelists representing a full range of political positions willdiscuss the tactical options available to our community, in light of a political climate dominated by the Republican party. Is liberalism an inherent link with the gay agenda? To what extent is an alliance with the Republican Party possible? Politically, where does our community go from here? 6:00 pm Leslea Newman Emerson 105, Harvard Yard (Jewish-American Lesbian author) "Heather Has Two Mommies", "The Femme Mystique", "Letter to Harvey Milk." Ms. Newman, a prolific author whose works explore lesbian and jewish identities, is perhaps most well known for her controvesial children's book "Heather Has Two Mommies", which was included as part of the Rainbow Curriculum in New York City. Ms. Newman will be reading from her works and offering a writing workshop the following afternoon. Presented by Harvard BGLSA and Harvard Hillel. Free and open to the public.
8:30 pm David Bergman (author) David Bergman, the author of Gaity Transfigured: Gay Self-Representation in American Literature and editor of The Violet Quill Reader, Men on Men 5 and The Burning Library, among other volumes, will speak on Gay Male Fiction - Yesterday and Today .
